What Is a Painted Spell?

I get asked this sometimes, not always in those exact words. Sometimes it’s: “What do your paintings mean?” Or, “Is this art or is this something else?” And the honest answer is… I don’t always know how to explain it neatly.
Because a painted spell isn’t a product. It’s not a technique or a style. It’s a feeling. A frequency. A kind of quiet magic that happens when I paint from a place beyond words.

It Begins in Silence

Before the brush touches canvas, something stirs — a nudge, a dream, a whisper from a place I can’t name. I don’t start with a plan. I start with a breath. A sensation. A flicker of something sacred.
And then I let it come through.
The Language of Colour and Line
The colours carry intention. The lines carry memory. The space between things — the gold, the mist, the empty parts — that’s often where the real spell lives.
A painted spell is not just something to look at. It’s something to feel.

What a Painted Spell Might Hold

It might hold:

  • a prayer for healing
  • a reminder of your wildness
  • a blessing for your home
  • a mirror for your inner world

Sometimes, even I don’t fully know what it’s casting until much later. I just know when it’s finished – not because it’s perfect, but because the energy settles.

Spells Beyond Words

I believe spells don’t have to rhyme or be said aloud. They can be felt in your bones. They can live in paint, in gesture, in the quiet way your breath catches when you look at something that feels like it’s speaking directly to you.
That’s what these are.

Art as Medicine

A painted spell is art as medicine.
Not to fix you.
Not to make you better.
But to remind you of the parts of you that were never broken.

An Invitation

So if you’ve found your way here, maybe you’ve been feeling it too – that longing for beauty with meaning, colour with soul, the kind of art that “remembers you.”

If so, you’re already inside the spell.
And if you’d like to receive one, not just to see, but to hold and feel and keep close – I send a free series called “Three Nights of Magic.”
Each letter is a painted spell, delivered by email, with a story, a ritual, and an affirmation. You can receive it here.

Thank you for being here. Truly. This path isn’t linear or loud – but it’s real.
And it’s only just beginning.

Stay rooted and radiant,
Anna-Lena Sharma
